Alhaji Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari (born 28 January 1968) in Zamfara state is a Nigerian politician. He was elected Governor of Zamfara State in the 26 April 2011 national election and is currently a Senator in the Nigerian National Assembly representing Zamfara West Senatorial District.
He had his primary education in Talata Mafara Township Primary School, and then proceeded for his secondary education at Government Teacher’s College in Bakura from 1979 to 1984. He finished his tertiary education at Sokoto Polytechnic from 1991 to 1994 where he obtained a certificate and later a Diploma in Secretarial Studies in 2004. He also attended Kebbi Polytechnic for a Graduate Diploma in Public Administration in 2008.
Senator Abdullaziz has been known for his relentless effort in improving the lives of his people during his time as a Governor and now as a representative of his people. This he has done by the numerous projects carried out and the provision of basic amenities for his people.
He has provided infrastructures such as roads, electricity supply, potable water, hospitals and schools across Zamfara State. His administration crashed the price of fertilisers available to farmers in Zamfara State.
He Constructed 300 blocks of classrooms across the 14 local governments in Zamfara to encourage education. He Constructed a 7,000 fully equipped ICT Teachers Capacity training Center in Gusau, the state capital. Under his administration, girl child education received a major boost, with a record of the highest enrolment in Yari’s first two years of service. He Equipped the Government Girls College, Talata Marafa, with state of the art facilities and many more projects he has done.
For his works, he is highly revered by his people and has been honoured with awards. He was awarded with the 2022 Media Golden Award of Excellence in Recognition of Humanitarian Services, conferred by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (Zamfara State Chapter) amongst others.
He is married with children.
