His Excellency, Umo Bassey Eno (Pastor) (born 24 April 1964) is a Nigerian clergy and politician who is the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He was the former Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in Akwa Ibom State and the founder of All Nations Christian Ministry International.
He had his primary and secondary education in Lagos State and Akwa Ibom State interchangeably and then went further to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Uyo and later a Master’s Degree in the same field.
Pastor Umo is known to be a Beacon of Hope to people of all classes. He has predestined himself to the service of humanity capped with empathy. Placing humanity at the centre of his administration has undoubtedly given his leadership a human face; where the rich and the poor, the privileged and the downtrodden, elders and the youth, men and women have a stake and sense of belonging.
Umo Eno is well known by his people with his keen interest in community development and as a corporate citizen, he understands the essence of corporate social responsibility and has been involved in community development, including upgrading some secondary schools within his environs and providing platforms for the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) among others. He has attracted visible development to his community including a cassava off-taking centre built by the Udom Emmanuel-led administration. He has awarded scholarships to many students across the different levels of formal education as well as several others in the area of skill and vocational studies.
Since 2004 he initiated and periodically embarked on a number of social welfare schemes, including medical interventions, building of houses for people within and outside his community and empowering youths through training and conferences, one of which is ‘The Ignite.’ Umo Eno has been involved in business training and providing small business start-up packs to women in his community. Through the company he founded in 1997 he has employed between 1500 and 2500 Akwa Ibom indigenes and others, at various times.
He is very down to earth, humble and moved by empathy. This was shown when he sighted two coffins i n a compound and branched the venue of the burial. Imagine the shock and surprise on the faces of the people who never dreamt that the number one citizen in the state would be their guest. On several occasions, the governor had stopped to buy fruits from women selling at different locations and equally empowered them.
With every sense of humility and decency, Governor Eno has honestly demystified leadership and the position of the governor by still relating with the people and humbling himself to the barest minimum at every given opportunity.
His milk of kindness still flows to individuals, families, groups, associations, civil servants, the political class, students, business people, women, youth, the elderly, the less privileged, the list is endless through his ARISE AGENDA INITIATIVE. Everything about Pastor Eno represents humanity, in line with the age-long truth that the essentiality of human existence is service to humanity and on completion of his tenure; he will indeed leave behind a legacy of service and selflessness, all for the sake of humanity. He feels the pains of the people and shares in their joy as well. For his works he has won several awards; He has won the Social Media Governor of the Year awarded by the National Institute of Social Media Analysts (NISMA); Governor of the Year (Fiscal Discipline) at the Independent Awards and many other awards.
He is married with Children.
