Peter Gregory Onwubuasi Obi CON born in Onitsha on the19th of July 1961, is a Nigerian politician, statesman, and business executive. He was a two-time Governor of Anambra State, from 2006 to 2010, and a second term until 2014.
Peter Obi has acquired a lot when it comes to his educational background, and all institutions he has attended will be listed here, including his course of study. He completed his secondary education at Christ the King College, Onitsha, and tertiary education at the University of Nigeria in 1984 and has gone further to achieve more certificates from prestigious institutions around the world. After completing his education, he pursued a career in banking and business before becoming a full-time politician.
Peter Obis Philanthropy and Humanitarian services predates and even transcends his politics. He has left a long trail of charities activities even too numerous to state. These acts also transcend religion as he reaches out to everyone, every region irrespective of tribe and religion.
His primary concern in and out of public office has always been to pursue the welfare of the underprivileged in society who he believes should have a better life given the abundant human and natural resources bestowed on this country by God. Peter Obi’s has visited numerous Churches and Mosques prompted by his urge to help the less privileged.
In these places, he has given messages of hope to uplift the spirit of the downtrodden. During the Ramadan period, Obi visited some praying centres in the North and South breaking fast with Muslim faiths and dolling some items to help ameliorate their sufferings and even went further to provide basic amenities such as water in some communities.
Similarly, he visited some churches during the Christian Holy Week and celebrated Easter with prisoners and in all he delivered a message of hope to the people. He has also provided basic social amenities in various rural communities to help, foster ease and improve standards of living within the communities.
He has always fulfilled his commitment to contribute in building better societies through investments in critical areas of development. He has supported various health centres, hospitals, schools and organizations too numerous to mention.
His passion to help the less and underprivileged in the society was elaborated when he urged well meaning Nigerians to channel all activities planned to mark his 63rd birthday to helping the poor in the country. He has received numerous commendations for his Humanitarian services and also has been honoured severally with awards.
He has been awarded with;
The Man of the Year by The Sun in 2007;
The Most Prudent Governor in Nigeria by This Day in 2009;
The Best Performing Governor on Immunization in Southeast, Nigeria by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2012.
In 2013, He was Silverbird Group’s Man of the Year.
In 2014, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Lagos Business School Alumni Association (LBSAA),
The Nigerian Library Association Golden Merit Award, and the Pontifical Equestrian Order of Saint Sylvester.
Peter Obi was the recipient of the This Day award for the Governor of the Decade in 2020, and the Leadership Excellence Award’s Man of the Year in 2022 and many more others too numerous to mention.
He is married to Margaret Brownson (née Usen) and they have two children.
